What Types of Bags Can You Use with a Vacuum Sealer?
- Can Heat-Resistant Plastic Bags Be Used with a Vacuum Sealer?
Yes, but it is not recommended. Standard heat-resistant food bags are relatively thin and the plastic is not very tough, so they can easily tear, puncture, or leak. Although air can be extracted from them like other bags, they may leak or tear during transport. They are therefore unsuitable for vacuum packaging, but can still be heat-sealed to close the bag.
- Can Clear OPP Bags Be Used with a Vacuum Sealer?
Clear OPP bags can be heat-sealed to close the opening, but vacuum sealing is not recommended. These bags are rigid and inflexible, so they may crack, leak, or become punctured.
- So, what types of bags should you use with a vacuum sealer?
1. Heavy-Duty Smooth Bags (Thicker Than Standard Heat-Resistant Bags)
These bags are not specifically designed for vacuum sealers, but they can be used as an alternative because they are thicker and stronger than standard heat-resistant bags. However, they are still thinner and less durable than purpose-made vacuum bags. Examples include heavy-duty PE bags, foil bags, foil zip-lock bags, and kraft zip-lock bags.
2. Smooth Vacuum Bags
These bags are specifically designed for vacuum packaging. They are highly durable and at least 80 microns thick, and are available in standard sizes such as 6*6 inches, 7*11 inches, 8*12 inches, and 9*14 inches.
3. Embossed Vacuum Bags
These bags are also specifically designed for vacuum packaging. Their key feature is an embossed texture on one side, which allows air to flow out more easily during vacuum sealing. They are highly durable and at least 80 microns thick. They are available in ready-made standard sizes and rolls that can be cut to the required length.
The key difference between smooth and embossed vacuum bags is their temperature resistance. Smooth vacuum bags can withstand freezing temperatures down to -17°C and heat up to 80°C, while embossed vacuum bags can withstand temperatures down to -20°C and heat up to 100°C.
